Ine Country, A sleepy, small town where a sheltered, wholesome young librarian, Anne O'Keefe, lies in bed-very ill and waiting for a heart tranplant. Suddenly the phone rings. There is a heart for Anne in the city.

The operation is a success, but now she has recurring erotic dreams of a lover she's never met. Anne becomes obsessed with finding out who this man is. She moves to Los angles, discover the identity of the heart donor and meets the man in her dreams-the donor's husband. They fall in love.

Anne models herself on Suzanne Hawks. One day she realizes that the man she loves so much may be the killer. Will he kill her, too, now that she resembles his ex-wife?
