Director: Jacques Demy Rating: I Duration: 126mins
Content: Jacques Demy's THE YOUNG GIRLS OF ROCHEFORT is the director's 1967 follow-up to his hugely successful all-singing THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG musical and stars real-life sisters Catherine Deneuve and Francoise Dorleac as a pair of twins, as well as Hollywood musical super-star Gene Kelly. Romance is in the air in Rochefort when a commercial fair is organised in the town square. Twin sisters Delphine(Deneuve), a dancer, and Solange(Dorleac), a singer and composer, are both looking for love, as is nearly everyone else caught in the spell of an enchanted summer, including an American concert pianist(Kelly) and the girl's mother. Agnes Varda, Demy's widow and an acclaimed director herself, restored THE YOUNG GIRLS OF ROCHEFORT to its original widescreen glory for this special re-release.
