The futility of the human condition as examined through the eyes of wage-slaves - that's the slipshod premise of "Clerks". Dante is a convenience-store clerk who finds his life destroyed in the course of a day that he wasn't even supposed to be working. His anti-social best friend Randel unwittingly contributes to his downfall, as does his unflapable girlfriend Veronica, his promiscuous ex-girlfriend Caitlin, the friendly neighborhood pusher Jay and the legion of mindless customers he waits on.
