The film is Winner of the Best Artistic Contribution prize at the 18th Tokyo International Film Festival
The story starts a peasant woman named Loach (Ni Ping), who has just divorced her husband, moves to Beijing with her two daughters in search of a better life in the city. She comes across a laborer whose name is also Loach (Ni Da Hung). He solicits her to live with him, but only offers a vain promise of buying her a big house. She refuses him right away. But as the two migrant workers struggle in the darker side of the prosperous city, she starts to develop an affection for him.
