Content: This sequel to the box office smash The Robe finds mature picking up the story after Burton and Simmons go to the executioner. Mature is convincing as the powerful qladiator and all the supporting players are believable in their historic roles. Jones is portrayed as beneficent when Claudius was, in reality, almost as bestial as his nephew Caligula. The latter role is enacted by Robinson as a screaming, hysterical tyrant on the fey side, a preposterous performance that must be seen to be believed. Rennie is appropriately sintly and Peter and Marshall gives a fine performance as the decent Nubian warrior. Paget is rather simpy as the victimized girl and Bancroft as a sleazy courtesan is wasted. Borgnine as the trainer of the gladiators is solid. Egan gives a bravura though brief perfomance as the merciless and lust-consumed gladiator who earns Mature's special rage. Fast paced and beautifully photographed by Krasner, this film
