In 1961, Vanessa Redgrave stars as an older woman whose companion of 50 years dies. In 1972, a feminist co-ed played by Michelle Williams discoves her attraction to an outsider. In 2000, sharon Stone and Ellen Degeneres portray a loving couple eager to experience parenthood.
Three couples in three different decades, bound by an uncoventional love and a struggle, as lesbians, to establish an identity in a society that has often, at best, been ambivalent about respecting them.
