At 12:35 a.m. on April 15, 1912 a young wireless operator Harold Cottam (CHRISTOPHER STRAULI) heard a faint distress signal in the wireless room of his ship, R.M.S, Carpathia. Unbelievably it came from R.M.S. Titanic Known to be making her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. Captain Rostron(PHILIP STONE) altered course immediately to go to her aid.
Four hours later, through the dawn light, look - outs saw a small flotilla of lifeboats surrounded by ice - flows in the cold Newfoundland waters.
The survivors clambered up the side of the ship to sit huddled on the deck. Among them were Leigh Goodwin (SUSAN SAINT JAMES), Laurence Beesley(David Warner), Madeline Astor (BEVERLY ROSS) , Molly Brown (CLORIS LEACHMAN), and Rene Harris (LISE HILBOLT).
