Soon Sammy's ambition brought him together with a well-dressed young mobster named John Gotti. The two forged an alliance, and initiated the hit on Paul Castellano, head of the Gambina family. Dubbed by the press as The Dapper Don, Gotti became the new boss with Sammy as his loyal number Two. As Sammy's power grew, her ordered hits, expanded his control over New Youk business, and helped Gotti beat federal indictments with growing regularity. As the family bonds weakened and government pressure to destroy Gotti escalated, Gravano remained fiercely loyal, unaware that his boss was selling him out.
