This is the story of two women; Seo Jung Eun and Han Yoo Kyung who have very different paths to pursue their goals. Jung Eun is a strong and courageous woman witha tough life growing up in an orphanage and in spite of longing for affection herself, she continues to embrace people around her. Jung Eun harbors the hope that she will one day meet her biological mother if she becomes a star. Through her pure and innocent nature, she strives to reach her goal and overcome her sufferings.
In contrast, Yoo Kyung who has a birth secret with its main agenda is to take revenge. The title THORN BIRDS refers to Jung Eun's character. A mythical bird that searches for thorn trees from the day it is hatched. When it finds the perfect thorn, it impales itself, and sings the most beautiful song ever heard as it dies.
