Yu Fung-sing vows to marry famed courtesan Fa Tsui-hung on becoming the Number One Scholar. Sing intends to keep his promise, but his class-conscious stepmother interferes. Stepmother and Sister Ming-yuet discover that Sing has dealings with a prostitute, they bring Sing to account, Sing is very angry. Yuet finds that Sing and Hung love each other very much, so she decides to help them.

Yuet uses her wits to bring the lovers together, she brings stepmother to a Buddhist temple. Stepmother finds a poem on the wall and she asks who is the poet. Yuet says it is a girl of an illustrious family, stepmother is flushed with joy and she asks Sing to marry this girl. Stepmother learns that the poet is actually Hung after the wedding, so she has to accept her as her daughter-in-law.
