In 1967, there are riots and demoonstrations inspired by the left in Hong Kong. She is a social climber with no scruples. She wants to have fame, riches and eternal good looks. He is an unlicensed cab driver, earning his keep from a rich man's wife. They happen to live under the same roof in a Kowloon City tenement house where the planes swoop by every minute of the day. They don't get off very well and despise each other. But she needs his car for class. So he takes her to her glorious or inglorious moments. He gradually realizes even her life is not a piece of cake. Gradually they are drawn closer and closer. She has a set back in her film career. She losses her mother too. He teaches her how to give vent to pent-up frustrations by shouting...
