Jazz clarinet legend Benny Goodman is the subject of CDLK 4355, which features his famous 40th Anniversary Concert that took place at Carnegie Hall in 1978. Originally issued on a 2LP set by Decca in the same year, Vocalion's reissue incorporates the concert in its entirety. Benny is accompanied by some equally legendary names from the jazz world including Lionel Hampton, Mary Lou Williams and Buddy Tate and, with an all-star big band in tow, they romp through some of the most famous numbers associated with Benny's illustrious career. These include Moonglow, King Porter Stomp, Stompin' at the Savoy, A String of Pearls and Sing, Sing, Sing as well as pieces of a more recent vintage such as The Beatles' Yesterday and Rocky Raccoon.
