This release from 1960 is one of the last made by the "Prez" before his life was cut short, undeniably by his devil-may-care habits and lifestyle. The key is that the entire program features Young's mastery of the clarinet, whereas his legend and output unitl then had been with the tenor sax. Producer Norman Granz was astute enough to allow Lester to record an entire album's worth with this instrument and the unique blend with the twin trumpets of Roy "Little Jazz" Eldridge and Harry Sweets Edison is truly wonderful. The audiofile pressing, presented in its rare stereo version and mastered with tube electronics honors a key member of Jazz royalty at a new height. Not to be missed.
