Another stunning Mercury recording of a series of Ravel pieces including La Valse, Rapsodie Espagnole and Alborado Del Gracioso along with Ibert's "Escales". Conducted by Paul Paray, the Detroit Symphony are in great form and the result is another musically satisfying disc that will push even the best cartridge to it's limits. The dynamic contrasts are superb and the bass is earth shattering. The all-tube transfer was from the original three track master tapes mixed on site at Bernie Grunman Mastering, using an original Mercury Mixing console, by Wilma Cozart Fine. This is a disc that every true audiophile should have in his or her collection.
